Handmade Wooden Tawny Owl Upright Nesting Box features:

• Handmade by us in our workshop.
• Made from 18mm plywood.
• Timber has been treated to protect it from the elements.
• Design in line with recommendations from the barn owl trust & British trust for Ornithology.
• Overall height approximately 1.1m.
• Features perch for owls to perch on.
• Fitted with an inspection hatch at the bottom of the box for easy access.

Installation:

• Choose a quiet area in a woodland, wooded garden, or park with mature trees.
• Face the entrance hole away from the prevailing wind (usually west or south-west in the UK).
•  Tawny Owl chicks leave the nest before they can fly – a behaviour known as branching – and it has been shown that those emerging from nests higher off the ground are less likely to be taken by predators.
• Position your box on the main trunk of the tree as high as you can safely manage and ideally c. 5–8 m above the ground.
• Clean the box in early autumn, or after the breeding season is over, to keep it in good condition for the next season.
